disappointing week for Larne Ladies
05/08/2011

monday night saw Larne ladies face derry city ladies at home in the semi final of the league cup. The Larne side started with alot of nerves but soon got into their stride and on the half hr mark were rewarded with a goal from
Laura noble. The girls then took their foot off the pedal and it wasnt long before they were punished with Derry scoring from a free kick outside the box. The 2nd half Larne found it hard to get into the game and allowed derry city to dominate. Derry city were then awarded a penatly which this time they scored. After learning their lesson from Larnes late comeback the last time the 2 teams met, Derry worked even harder to keep posession and finished the game 2-1.
Larne Ladies then played their last home game of the season against Knockbreda, a game which was a must win for Larne if they were to reach the play offs. After beating Knockbreda 6-0 at the start of the season the girls were shocked when they found themselves 2-0 after 2 nice finishes from a much improved knockbreda side. Larne failed to make any impact in the first half and went in 2-0 down at half time. The management let it known that the first half performance was maybe the worst of the girls season so far and it simply wasnt good enough. This still didnt seem to make a difference and although the Larne girls were working harder and creating a few half chances, it was nowhere near the standard of football they displayed at the start of the season. Knockbreda were then able to score their 3rd after some sloppy marking in the larne side. With half an hr left and 3-0 down the girls knew it was time to pick up the pace and show some of the spirit that has seen them
come back in so many games this season. As Larne started to come into the game, Gill Small who was creating alot of problems for the knockbreda defence won a penalty which Trish Neill failed to convert. It was then Gill again who won another penalty which Laura Noble fired into the net.
With 20mins still on the clock Larne started to play some nice football and came close a few times. It was then Gill Small who scored 2 securing a draw for the Larne side, making it still possible for a second place finish.
Larnes last game away to blackieville is now a must win.
